To effectively host a tournament, you need:
1. A Field
Field must be level and free of obstacles to a radius of 60 meters.
There may not be any holes, obstacles or mounds which are unsafe or may
interfere with the flight of a boomerang or movement of competitors.
Field will need to be marked with immoveable field lines. Paint,
gypsum, lime or chalk may be used. National tournaments need space for
2 of the above plus peripheral 20 meter diameter circles for other
events. Typical size would be 200x 200 meters or several soccer sized
fields adjacent each other.
2. Housing for competitors coming from out of state.
Competitors generally travel to tournaments within their region and
will typically seek out free housing with other boomerang enthusiasts
in the area or economy or moderately priced motels and hotels in the
area. These should be within easy access of the field.
3. Officials, including tournament director, head judge, referee, and scorekeeper(s).
4. Sanctioning.
The USBA provides a million dollars worth of coverage for all
sanctioned tournaments. (Higher limits available for additional cost).
This coverage is automatically included in the sanctioning fee of $80
payable to the USBA 2 weeks prior to your tournament. All USBA
sanctioned tourneys must pay the fee and run events according to USBA
standards in the rulebook.
Complete details regarding field requirements and events are in the USBA Rulebook.
Complete tournament director's packet and rulebook may be obtained
on-line by clicking above or on the "Lynx page". Sanctioned events
receive a complete packet of information, score sheets, etc, at no
charge at the beginning of the competitive season.
